Four of the attorneys of Marshall, Parker and Weber (MPW) recently participated in the 21st Elder Law Institute held at the Harrisburg Hilton on July 19 and 20. The annual conference is put on by PBI, the educational arm of the Pennsylvania Bar Association.

The Elder Law Institute is considered to be the premier educational event for elder law attorneys in Pennsylvania and one of the finest elder law conferences in the country.  It was attended by hundreds of lawyers throughout Pennsylvania who provide legal services to older adults.

The four MPW attorneys were involved in teaching sessions on various subjects. Elizabeth White presented on long term care planning for blended and non-traditional families; Matt Parker spoke on how to use specialized annuities to protect savings; Tammy Weber covered the complicated issue of the elective share when a spouse dies, and Jeff Marshall discussed business succession planning.

Tammy Weber was honored at a Bar Association dinner on July 18. Attorney Weber completed her term as Chair of the state bar association’s Elder Law Section. The Elder Law Section is involved in advocacy for Pennsylvania seniors and provides input on state legislative and regulatory proposals Attorneys White and Marshall serve with Ms. Weber on the Bar Association’s Elder Law Section Council.

While in Harrisburg, the four MPW attorneys also attended a one-day elder law conference sponsored by the Pennsylvania Association of Elder Law Attorneys (PAELA) Ms. Weber and Mr. Marshall serve on the Board of PAELA.

Laws and programs that impact Pennsylvania older adults are going through massive changes, including dramatic shifts in tax laws and in programs that deliver long term care services and supports to seniors and individuals with special needs. Participation in these educational conferences helps the MPW attorneys remain at the cutting edge of elder law. Being asked to teach sessions recognizes the substantial expertise that MPW lawyers have developed.
