You’ve heard the saying that you can’t really appreciate someone’s point of view until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.  North Central Sight Services (NCSS) has taken that to heart – with a unique twist.

Marshall, Parker & Weber has teamed up with NCCS to support their Dining in the Dark program.   MP&W is the Reception Sponsor this year and we are so proud to be part of this fund-raising event for such a wonderful organization!  All the proceeds will be used for rehabilitation and prevention services, as well as employment for the blind and visually impaired. The event will take place on March 30, 2019.

This event holds a special place in my heart… My own mother has benefitted from the services of NCCS over the years.  Having my “work family” supporting them makes it that much more meaningful.  I’ve been lucky enough to have attended Dining in the Dark in the past, and I had a great time.  The food is delicious, and the conversations range from interesting to down-right comical.

Diners are provided blindfolds in order to simulate what a visual impairment might mean to a person enjoying something most of us take for granted – a wonderful dinner out on the town.  Guests are given verbal cues about where to find the necessities on the table, like coffee creamers or water glasses.  Servers announce the placement of entrees on the plate with “time references”.   When is the last time you had to find your vegetables “at 9:00”?   The entire meal, from appetizers to dessert, is enjoyed “in the dark”.   We are looking forward to an excellent meal prepared by students at Le Jeune Chef and the chance to experience a daily event from a completely different perspective.
